Carlotta Pioppini, ESR13 spend her second secondment at the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" in Bergamo in Italy and in particular in the Laboratory of Cellular Reprogramming and Gene Therapy. It was focused on 2D IPSC management up to 3D cell differentiation and analysis. In particular, she was able to learn about monolayer IPSC culture, IPSC-derived spheroids and kidney ordanoids formation and differentiation with a focus on immunofuorescent staining, confocal imaging and Scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM).

Carlotta worked closely with another PhD student, Alexandru Scarlat also working in the TrainCKDis consortium.
"I am really glad I could complete these 2 week secondment at Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" in Bergamo. Having the opportunity to learn how to work with kidney organoids and to perform different staining technics as well as Scanning acoustic microscopy allowed me to gain valuable insights into cutting-edge kidney research that i will apply to my PhD project and scientific carrer."
